PRACTICES
If we take following Jesus seriously,
we must not settle for merely knowing
things about Jesus. Rather, we must
do the things Jesus did, and practice
His way of life. Practicing the way of
Jesus is the process and journey
that we must do together.
What Are Practice Groups?
Practices are the core of how we move from head knowledge, to actual transformation of the heart and implementation of the way of Jesus in our day-to-day lives. It’s how we live like Jesus, not just talk about Him.
Twice a year we center an entire teaching series around a “practice” and facilitate groups throughout the Prescott area to discuss and further implement what we are learning about the way of Jesus. These practices focus on either a Spiritual Discipline (sabbath, prayer, fasting, etc..) or a Consequential Cultural Discussion (Faithful Citizenship, Sexual Wholeness etc). We put substantial energy into these Practices. Why? Because they not only move us from a place of head knowledge to heart change and hopefully world change, but they also emphasize the practice of living in community.
What To Expect:
Expect a weekly commitment. While this won’t be like small groups or Bible studies you may have experienced in the past, once you’ve joined a practice group you can expect to meet once a week for the duration of the practice (typically 6-8 weeks) either in someone’s home or in the church building. Additionally, you will be expected to have listened to each week’s teaching and be willing to share insight.
You can expect an inviting atmosphere free of judgment where questions and discussion are welcome. It is not expected for you to come with answers. Rather, we hope you come with a humble heart, ready to learn, grow, engage, and implement (practice). If all this is new to you, that’s okay! We grow from learning in community!
Expect to be challenged. Many of our practices cover content that is new to most people. It is expected that you will have to wrestle with new ideas, take time to ponder questions, do some personal inventory, and truly ask yourself how God is calling you to grow.
